should this article be merged into Otherlink?[edit source]

while i don't doubt that there are more plenty to be found on copinglinking specifically, i still think a single, solid article on linking in general would probably be more useful than two separate ones for the time being. thoughts? ~ vagabondsun (it/its + he/him) | talkcontrib 19:27, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

yeah, right now i don't think there's much here that wouldn't also apply to links formed for other reasons. i could see it splitting off again into its own article at some point, but i feel like there's enough overlap for two separate pages to be redundant right now. i'm biased, though, because i haven't gotten used to the wide format of the independent wiki and it kinda irritates me that everything looks shorter, lmao! - petrichoran • they; she; ae; ey; sol; vamp; fae • talk

I think copinglink should be moved to the otherlink section largely because it predates otherlink as a term, and it'd be easier/simpler to mention that connected history if it was merged into the larger page rather than having to say it multiple times across two pages. That's really copinglink's only significant aspect that differentiates it from other linking subgroups like aeslink, funlink, and similar as well, which is why it at this point doesn't necessarily need its own page until we can amass enough copinglink-specific writings to justify the divide/notability imo. (Obligatory "take all my words with grains of salt" disclaimer because I coined copinglink.) Page He/They talk 20:21, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'll add that copinglink includes aspects that otherlink doesn't. There are people who have psychological identities for coping that use copinglink for the specificity of coping even if it's involuntary. The issue with merging the pages is that both of them include umbrella and identities that might be excluded or not applicable to the other. That might be something to keep in mind. Unfortunately I think the lack of writings on it are because of how most identities of this nature are very personal - you similarly don't have many essays that go in-depth into trauma-based otherkinity. Maybe a general "Link" page would be a good idea? Rex • he/ix/kye • (talk) 23:07, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
to my knowledge, otherlink was coined as an umbrella term to include copinglinks, and even if that's not always accurate [i genuinely don't know and you seem to be more knowledgeable than me, Rex], i think that's an idea that a lot of people have. so, if we're going to merge, i think it would be easier for others to find as part of the otherlink article rather than something called "Link". this might not be that relevant of a point because we can always create redirects, but i don't know if i see the point when many people view Otherlink as the 'proper' umbrella term. - petrichoran • they; she; ae; ey; sol; vamp; fae • talk
