Otherkin Wiki talk:Article workshop
Add topicwhat species are notable?[edit source]
there's a lot i want to add to the species list but which i'm not already sure there are enough substantial sources for. for a lot of them, it's because i'm not sure if they're notable and discrete enough to be independant of a larger category - different species of felines, canines and reptiles, for example, or different types of fae. but even aside from that, i imagine there are a number of species that there's plenty written about, and it's just not on my personal radar because it's not one of the stereotypical ones. back on the old wiki, we had that big semi-official list for testing if there were sufficient sources for kintype pages specifically. would a similar sub-project here also be helpful? vagabondsun (it/its + he/him) | talk ✨ contrib 20:53, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- A similar sub-project here would probably be helpful. Although I'm still a little worried that having so many different categories for kintypes and theriotypes are going to result in a lot of unavoidable and unhelpful repetition-- if a species doesn't have dedicated history in the community (forums, Discords, specific terminology beyond just (noun)-kin, dedicated websites, etc.) that can make up a majority of the page for it, then we do run into the problem of just having to re-describe the experience of being otherkin over and over again with small differences. Who-is-Page (talk) 21:19, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- to me, that's the exact thing i hope(!) this would help us avoid. the flow i'm imagining is something like:
- person considers if an article on... i dunno, cows would be viable. maybe it's because they find a personal essay or something and it gets them wondering if there's more stuff out there, maybe it's because they just have a feeling it's a popular enough type.
- they add 'cows' to the project page, signalling an open call for people to try and find (or create? :v) more cow-related sources.
- if the right number and type of sources to meet the notability requirements are found, nice! if there's been an exhaustive search and nothing has been found, or after a certain amount of time with no finds, then it's taken off the list and deemed non-viable unless there are big changes.
- i feel like the current notability criteria are reasonably well-formed - Deer seems like a good demonstration of the fact that an (almost) Minimum Viable Article by these criteria (it has sources from four different authors) is still pretty good. but it could be the case that extra guidelines around species articles would be helpful. or maybe the notability criteria do need to be tightened up in general? i suppose considering more articles and checking in with our gut feelings about whether they would be useful or not might give us a clearer picture of that vagabondsun (it/its + he/him) | talk ✨ contrib 16:01, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

We suggest adding copinglinks, as they are a form of Otherkinning.[edit source]
Possible sources:
https://who-is-page.tumblr.com/post/139871297049/clinkers-and-copinglink https://who-is-page.tumblr.com/post/139572508999/fearlykid-hey-hey-hiya-can-someone-explain-how https://therian.fandom.com/wiki/Copinglink https://otherkin.fandom.com/wiki/Copinglink https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=copinglink
- hey! thanks for your suggestion. there already is a page, it's called copinglink! if you'd like, you can expand that page or suggest those sources on the talk page! although, just to let you know, citing things like wikis isn't generally considered good practice, as a.) the contents of a wiki can change and b.) the purpose of the wiki is to compile what other sources are saying, rather than putting forward our own ideas. if there's something on another wiki page that you'd ever like to add, you could check to see if it has a reliable source, and then cite that.
- also, you can sign talk page posts using four tildes [this symbol: ~] so we know who you are!

Postfurry?[edit source]
Still not entirely sure what it is, but some browsing of the Postfurry Wiki indicates it has some similarity to otherkin. SamSam (talk) 02:14, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- i think it makes sense, and there's _some_ crossover between postfurry and alterhuman spaces. i'm wondering, though, if there should be a specific postfurry article, or if it should be a subsection of a more general furry article. the comparisons that people have drawn between furries and otherkin/therians, the fact that they've been grouped together in research, the experiences of people who are both... i think there's a lot to be said about the relationship the communities have, whatever that relationship might be. vagabondsun (it/its + he/him) | talk ✨ contrib 23:22, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
Fictherian Sources[edit source]
Just putting these here so they don't get buried in the Discord

is tulpamancy within the scope of this wiki?[edit source]
i mentioned that i was thinking about the possibility of a tulpamancy page in the discord a while ago but didn't really get a definitive response! i wasn't really sure if it was in the scope of this wiki - i'm not the greatest expert, but i think there's some overlap between tulpamancy and otherkin? and, either way, if we're considering all alterhuman topics relevant [or at least all identities some consider to be alterhuman], than it would be by being a kind of plurality. but because i wasn't so sure i wanted to get some input before adding it to the list!
also, i think there's enough out there for a page on hearthomes! i think that one's less dubious, but i thought it would be good to mention it before just adding it

Psychological Otherkin experiences[edit source]
These specific topics of the following fall under or related to psychological otherkin. I would like to expand and work on/propose the following topics to be created:
-clinical lycanthropy
-endelity
-kinixus systems
-trauma based identity
-attachment based identity
-other psychological sources
-personality disorder based source
-plurality based identity
- We already have a Plurality page for overlaps between them and I think trauma-based identities can still be put in relevant pages, like making a section of Otherkin if it's relevant enough. I also tried to look up kinixus system and found nothing in website tags and a Google search for "kinixus system" only brought up what looks like your blog and an unsourced Neocities. For everything else maybe a section for delusion-based identity might be useful given how new Endel as a term is and how there are competing terms like IRL or DA, and how clinical lycanthropy as far as I know hasn't risen as a subculture to the same extent. I also do want to say there is a psychological term for an adopted identity within personality disorders, but I could be completely wrong. 00:41, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Rex • he/ix/kye • (talk) 00:41, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
do subjects of discourse get their own articles?[edit source]
by that, i'm talking about things like "kinning outside your experience" and "don't tag as kin" - i'm sure there are plenty others. does the conversation around an issue like this stand as a topic unto itself, or is this kind of information better off distributed throughout other articles? vagabondsun (it/its + he/him) | talk ✨ contrib 17:24, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
I'd personally say no: while I think these controversies are worth mentioning in relevant articles underneath a subsection or similar I don't think they warrant full-fledged pages on their own. --Page ☙ He/They ❧ talk➺ 00:23, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
What!? I Think I'm An Animal - other notable media too?[edit source]
i think that documentary is fairly notable, and there's plenty of sources for it because a loooot of people in the community had opinions about it. but it got me thinking about other media about otherkin/therians/etc that might be notable - is there any? i don't think anything is nearly as notorious as I Think I'm An Animal, but surely there's another one or two worth talking about.

- necro-ing my own thread lol - in the research we've been doing for this, we've found multiple references to Animal Imitators as having been similarly disastrous. if we can find more sources covering it in its own right, there could be an article there? i know it was notable for being one of the earlier bits of media to use the word 'transspecies' in connection with otherkin and therians, wasn't it?
